Top Causes of Window Seal Failure

Your windows have to be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure that they’re in good condition for the years to come. Accomplishing this gives you peace of mind knowing that your windows can continue to fulfill their purpose of making your home beautiful and energy-efficient. However, your windows will falter thanks to wear-and-tear through the years. In this post, a top window and door replacement company, Renewal by Andersen® of Memphis, shares the top causes of window seal failure.

Window Seal Failure

Foggy Glass

If you notice fog building up between your window pains, then this means that it has lost a majority of its insulation properties. Remember that fogging is caused by water droplets brought about by weather changes and water vapor from leaks of the window seals.

Warping

Local window installation companies will tell you that your window frame can warp due to rapid temperature changes, causing the frame to shrink or expand. In many cases, warped window frames can endanger the structural integrity of the material. Once you notice your window frame warping, have your trusted window contractor replace it immediately.

Drafty Windows

If you notice the wind blowing from your windows even when it’s closed, then this means that the seals have already failed, or they’re in bad condition. This results in wasted energy since the air in your home escapes through the window gaps, causing your HVAC unit to work twice as hard to maintain the comfortable temperature in your living space.

"Our windows were the original ones that were installed when they built the house in 1972. They wouldn't open, they had been painted shut. They were single pane and the glaze was cracked everywhere. I had to put plastic up every year to help keep the house warm at least a little bit. My MIL was surprised that there weren't any panes in the windows. Now she loves it. We have put a film on the windows so we can see out but no one can see in. We are loving it!"
