What is Fibrex Material Composed Of?
Andersen manufactures millions of windows each year. Miling intricate profiles in the windows produce wood pieces that are not big enough to be used in other window components. The unused wood is reclaimed and repurposed to create Fibrex material, which is made up of 40 percent wood fiber by weight and 60 percent propriety polymer.
The wood fiber is heated to make sure it’s free from moisture. After it has been dried, the polymer is heated to a certain temperature and then combined with the wood fiber. When the right amount of pressure is applied to the liquid polymer, it encases and fills every cell of the fiber. The wood fibers then align and bend together, which allows Fibrex to resist moisture and have superior durability. After this, the compound goes through an extruder so it can be made into any shape and applied with virtually any color.
