Tips for Customizing a Bay Window

Bay windows are made up of three to four window panels that push outward in a linear pattern with sharp lines. With them, you’ll get a more expansive outdoor view, make your home more appealing and even increase energy savings. This window style is ideal for common spaces in the house like living and dining rooms.

But it’s important to customize your bay window. Here’s how.

Choosing a Size

Bay windows are available in various sizes to fit any opening. The sizes usually range in width from 3 feet 6 inches to 10 feet 6 inches and in height from 3 feet to 6 feet 6 inches. Installing a bay window that’s the same size or smaller than your old windows will cost you less than choosing bigger ones. However, larger windows will allow more natural light into your home and have more visual impact in both your interior and exterior.

The Best Material

Windows are usually made of wood and vinyl. However, here at Renewal by Andersen®, our windows feature Fibrex® material frames and sashes. This unique material has the beauty of wood and is twice as strong as vinyl. It also insulates better than vinyl or pine window frames. You can make the most of these benefits by hiring a certified windows installer.

Type of Sash

You can go for either casement or double-hung windows for the sash of your bay. In most cases, the bay sash is the same as the other windows in the house though you don’t have to make them the same. Casement sash is ideal for taller, narrower bays while double-hung sash looks great on shorter units.
