These Are the Problems Your Windows Face During Winter

The winter season is the ultimate test for a house window replacement. Even under the mild and mostly wet winters of Tennessee, winter can still be a tough time for many window products. If your new replacement windows can survive the winter, then you know it can handle almost anything Mother Nature can throw at it.

These Are the Problems Your Windows Face During Winter

It’s important to familiarize yourself with the common issues your home faces during the cold days. This way, you can take steps to be ready and even avoid bad habits that could jeopardize the performance of your replacement windows. Here are some tips from our experts at Renewal by Andersen® of Memphis on how to get your home and your windows ready for the new season.

Condensation

For the most part, you won’t need to contact your local window replacement service for condensation problems. In fact, condensation is even normal and to be expected during winter. However, if the problem occurs more frequently than usual or at odd times, then it could be an issue. For example, condensation is more common during the night when warm humid air from indoors comes into contact with the cold glass surface. If this problem happens too much or even during warm days, call a professional right away.

Drafts

Replacement windows are sealed and designed to be as airtight as possible. This means drafts should certainly not happen, especially for newly installed replacement windows. If you notice the formation of drafts around your windows, it could be a sign of seal failure. Contact your local window contractor for an inspection immediately.

Ice

Your window company may warn you of icing problems, especially during winter. Ice can come from the condensation on the glass, which is usually normal, or it could just be from the humidity levels inside or outside your home. Either way, ice could lead to drafts so it’s best to call your contractor if your windows are icing up too quickly and frequently.
