Ask Your Window Contractor These Important Questions

If you’re thinking of replacing your windows, know that it can be a big project that should be done professionally. As a leading contractor for vinyl replacement windows, we’re sharing some important questions you need to ask to your windows installer.

Ask Your Window Contractor These Important Questions

1. Can I Have a Written Estimate?

With a written and itemized estimate, you can see what kind of expenses are going into your project. This should happen after your windows contractor has done a thorough inspection of your home’s windows. The estimate should include parts, labor and other materials used, even during cleanup. This breakdown of expenses should be agreed upon in writing to avoid any misunderstandings later on.

2. How Long Will the Project Take?

You need to clarify this with your hired window replacement contractor so you won’t get too worried if the replacement project seems like it’s not going to finish on time. Depending on the number of windows needed to be replaced as well as the schedule of your hired contractor, it may take some time before your replacement project is completed. For instance, if you hire our services for replacement windows, we usually give a general timeline of how and when it will be done so you’ll have some peace of mind that your project is being prioritized.

3. Are Your Licensed and Certified?

This is a very important question to ask any window replacement contractor you hire to do work in replacing your home’s windows. The fact is many states require such licenses and certifications, and hiring a professionally licensed installer can give you some protection as well when issues arise later on. Along with licenses and certifications, you should also ask if your contractor has insurance on property damage, liability, as well as worker’s compensation. This not only protects you but the contractor as well.

4. What Kind of Warranty Will I Receive?

No matter how well your windows were installed, you’ll never know whether issues will arise weeks or months later. Ask your contractor about the warranty policy of your new windows, and make sure you get it in writing. This will come in handy just in case. Also, don’t forget to ask for your contractor’s contact information so they can be at a call’s notice when something happens to your windows.

"Our windows were the original ones that were installed when they built the house in 1972. They wouldn't open, they had been painted shut. They were single pane and the glaze was cracked everywhere. I had to put plastic up every year to help keep the house warm at least a little bit. My MIL was surprised that there weren't any panes in the windows. Now she loves it. We have put a film on the windows so we can see out but no one can see in. We are loving it!"
